A production total is a starting point. The changes inside a mining portfolio often tell the more useful story.

The reported result

Glencore reported 365,600 tonnes of own-sourced zinc production in the first half of 2026, down 21% from 465,200 tonnes a year earlier. Its report was published on 29 July 2026.

What changed

The company linked the decrease mainly to the end of mine life at Lady Loretta in late 2025 and lower zinc grades at Antamina during a phase with higher copper grades. It also cited the disposal of the Kidd mine on 1 June 2026.

ZincThink perspective

The figures illustrate why mine life, ore composition and ownership matter when interpreting supply. A change in one company’s production is not a measurement of worldwide demand. Comparisons should preserve the reporting period and the company’s stated basis for counting joint ventures and controlled operations.

For readers following zinc, the practical habit is simple: look beyond the headline total to the operations behind it.
