Make zinc science accessible
Intended audience: Researchers, educators and scientific communicators
An essential element can be familiar in name and poorly understood in practice. ZincThink proposes a shared commitment to clearer public explanations of zinc, from human biology to everyday materials.
Three proposals for discussion
- Keep the source visible. Link substantial claims to original research or authoritative references. Explain whether a statement describes a laboratory finding, a population association or established practical guidance.
- Separate observation from promise. Celebrate discoveries such as the zinc spark while explaining what was measured and what remains unknown. Do not convert an interesting experiment into an unsupported health claim.
- Declare interests. Identify commercial relationships, funding and editorial responsibility. Invite corrections and make material changes visible, so advocacy remains accountable to evidence.
Accessible science need not sacrifice precision. This proposed charter asks communicators to make zinc understandable, useful and open to question. ZincThink’s own editorial approach is intended to follow the same principles.
